Chippy Goes Sledding (At least in theory ...)

Normally, I like to sleep the cold winter days away. But, it has been so warm lately, I thought I would check on what is happening around the woodpile. Bushy told he got a sled for Christmas. I have no idea what a “sled” is. According to Bushy, you’re suppose to sit on it and “slide” down the hill.

I think I will check out the hill first. Boy that looks rather steep! I not so sure about these winter sports.

Here goes nothing. I am ready to go. Hmmmm … nothing seems to be happening.

May be I am suppose to push the sled and then jump on. Nope, that didn’t work either. It must be broken. I hear Bushy behind the woodpile and he can’t stop laughing. [Update] Apparently you need something called snow to go sledding. What is snow?

Waking up for a Mid-Winter Snack

51 degrees and sunny … is this really January?
I thought I would take a break from hibernation and get a snack.

Boy do I need to stretch. You would be a bit stiff from sleeping 24/7 for several weeks straight.

I think I will check this corn out. My feathered friends seem to be getting well fed this winter.
I don’t think they will mind if I take a little.

Meet Bushy's Friend George

My best friend's name is George. He is a bit shy. Okay, truth be told, he is scared of his own shadow. I brought him by the woodpile to show him my new sled. Here is George's reaction in his own words:

"It's scary! ... Maybe I’ll take a peek."

"Another little peek?"

"It didn’t move. Guess I’ll try the sniff test?  Passed!"

"OK, I can hop on board."

Bushy Goes Sledding

Santa brought me a new sled for Christmas. It finally snowed, so, I got a chance to try it out. Sledding is a lot of fun! You got to try it.

The Night-Shift

I have a confession to make: my feathered and furry friends have a “slight” tendency to spill seeds from the feeders and make a general mess of the “dining hall” every day. Have you ever wondered who cleans up the mess? We have a part time janitor who works the night shift. He has a bushy tail like myself except it has rings. He is a big fan of the Lone Ranger and likes to wear his black eye mask to work. Most janitors sweep up the mess and toss it into the trash can. Our janitor is very environmentally conscience and doesn’t like to see good food go to waste. So, he eats all of the leftover seeds and scraps of suet. Occasionally, he checks the trash can for “recyclables.” Unfortunately when he is on one of his recycling crusades, he forgets he is supposed to be cleaning up things and leaves quite a mess for Mom to pickup.

My Cousin Mr. Chubbs

Once a year I go to see my cosmopolitan cousin Mr. Chubbs. He lives in the exclusive section of downtown Boston, the Boston Common. He does not have to search through the leaves for his food. People just hand it to him! Imagine that. As you can see from his photo, he could use a bit exercise. The only thing we have in common is our bushy tails.

 Can you see the resemblance?

Only a block away from the subway!
