Easter Bunny

I have always thought the story of the Easter bunny was a quaint fable you told to your kids. I was at the post office mailing some Easter cards and ran into Peter, great-great-grandson of the famous Peter cottontail. He told me he lives on the lawn at the Post Office and actually works for them, one day a year. He has the all important job of delivering Easter baskets to children. The Easter bunny really does exist! … Hmmm, have I been on good behavior this year? Does the Easter bunny deliver to the Woodpile?

I was up at the crack of dawn and searched all over the woodpile. I was looking for a small chipmunk size basket. Lo and behold, I found this great big Easter basket with my name on it. The eggs were filled with sunflower seeds, my favorite candy.

Happy Easter

Easter Egg Hunt at the Woodpile

As you have probably guessed by now, we like to celebrate all of the holidays. Mom set up an Easter Egg Hunt for everyone at the woodpile. Little boys and girls like to find chocolate and money in their eggs. We much prefer to find fresh sunflower seeds. Bushy has been just a little excited for a couple weeks now in anticipation of the Easter Egg Hunt. Okay, he has been talking non-stop about it for two weeks! He was bragging about how many eggs he was going to find.

The day finally arrived and all was set. Everyone lined up waiting for the go ahead. Off we went. Bushy was the first to find an egg. He cracked it open and was busy munching down his treat. Hmmm … good. Then he spotted the birds eyeing his seeds. Time to find a safer place to eat. He scurried off to a safe spot to enjoy his treat. Once he had gobbled up his treat, he returned to the egg hunt and discovered they were all gone. What happened?

Boys and girls, the moral of this story is collect all the eggs first and then eat the treats inside later.

Puddle Ducks

The recent rain storm created some puddles near the Woodpile. It got me thinking about them. I overhead Mom talking to someone about "puddle ducks." It did not sound like a nice thing to say about our feathered friends in the pond. We critters have rights too. While I was thinking about using this blog to draw attention to this injustice I heard a flutter of feathers. The mallards descended upon the Woodpile to gobble up the corn. What is the first thing they do? They jumped in the puddle! Splash, splash. [Ducks] "Look the perfect puddle."
