While a new generation of young chipmunks headed off to their first year of college over the past two weeks, one of Mrs. Spot’s (our school mistress) brightest students returned with a freshly minted degree in architecture. Malcolm was the first in his family to attend college. For as long as anyone can remember, generations of Malcolm’s family have been sunflower farmers. Malcolm was not content to watch the seeds grow, he wants to leave a lasting impact on the world for future generations.
For his thesis project at college, he designed an innovative new critter house design. It uses recycled materials, is flexible enough to withstand hurricane force winds, and some other unexpected features. Best of all it is low cost and anyone can afford it.
Can’t affording a million dollar one bedroom condo in Boston? No problem.
Vegas goes through thousands of packs of playing cards every week. Rather than have these end up in a landfill why not use them as a building material. With high-tech adhesives and creative architecture one can turn them into a house of cards.
With any new idea there is always the skeptics.
This skeptic wanted to have the personal satisfaction of collapsing the house of cards. All he got was a bad bump on the head and some bent whiskers as he bounced off of it.
Mrs. Spot has faith in her former student and is the first to venture inside.
She is surprised to discover it is roomy enough to snuggle up and sleep.
What’s this? The concept of a 2nd floor will take some getting use to.
The construction is strong and flexible enough to handle the chubbiest of ‘munks.
Don’t like your neighborhood? Too many woodchucks destroying
your sunflower garden? No problem, just move your house by giving it a good
steady push.
