I am excited to report we have a new neighbor at the Woodpile.
Mrs. Eastern Phoebe has leased a penthouse condo under the eaves. She got busy
renovating the space. Using plant fibers and mud she built a very sturdy nest.
The nest is very tastefully decorated with green mosses. There is one long
green stem sticking quite a ways out from the nest. Not sure what that is
about. According to the Woodpile gossip, Mrs. Phoebe is expecting, that is she
is sitting on a clutch of eggs. I borrowed Mom’s “Peterson Field Guide to Birds
Nests” and it says we should expect some youngsters in about 15 to 16 days.
There are four eggs: Three speckled and one white. Phoebe's can lay both colors.
